I'm pleased that Secretary Vilsack is passionate about the needs of young, beginning, and small farmers. Let's not let him forget that many non-profit organizations and private sector institutions have complementary goals, seeking to assist young, beginning, and small farmers in their own way. There are a lot of excellent programs at the local, state and regional levels that are potential partners to leverage the resources of USDA. Let's make sure USDA efforts are tailored for cooperation with non-governmental programs in order to be successful, effective, and sustainable.
