This is a key time for those of us who want to see a more sustainable, equitable farm and food system — Congress is hard at work on the 2023 Farm Bill right now and making key decisions on policies and programs. One of the best ways to help right now is to build support for marker bills – key ideas that we want lawmakers to include in the final farm bill! Here’s how to help:

- Pick the bills that matter most to you
- Dial your Congressional Senators and Representative and ask them to please cosponsor these bills!
- Agriculture Resilience Act — S.1016 and H.R.1840
- Addresses the climate crisis by increasing investment in agricultural research, improving soil health, supporting the transition to pasture-based livestock, ensuring farmland preservation and viability, promoting on-farm renewable energy, and reducing food waste.
- Strengthening Local Processing Act — S.354 and H.R.945
- Builds more resilient regional food systems by increasing livestock processing options for local livestock and poultry producers and helping consumers access locally raised meat & poultry.
- Local Farms and Food Act — S.1205 and H.R. 2723
- Improves equity and access to the suite of Local Agriculture Market Programs (LAMP) and expands the reach of impactful nutrition incentives through GusNIP and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program.

The Farmers for Climate Action: Rally for Resilience caught Congress’ attention. Now, as Congress begins to write the next farm bill, we need to make sure they listen to those farmers and support real, farmer-led climate action. The Agriculture Resilience Act will expand resources for sustainable farmers working hard to build healthy soils and contribute to climate change mitigation.
