A new farm bill in two weeks? Show Congress your support for a better farm bill today!

April 12, 2012

If you’re like most Americans, you want our farm and food policies to support strong family farms and rural communities, healthy eating, and protection of our natural resources.

The Senate is crafting a 2012 Farm Bill right now that makes just a relatively tiny investment in beginning farmers, sustainable and organic agriculture, economic development, and access to healthy food produced by sustainable farmers.  It also includes substantial cuts to programs that help farmers take good care of their land and water and fails to make basic conservation a condition for receipt of farm subsidies.

Our platform, Farming for the Future:  A Sustainable Agriculture Agenda for the 2012 Food & Farm Bill, is a blueprint for change.

Sign on as a citizen endorser of Farming for the Future, and join us in telling Congress:  we need a better farm bill, and we need it this year!

We need to show Congress there is broad support for a sustainable food and farm bill.  Now is the time to let Congress know that you care about the future of farming – the Senate is at work on its version of the 2012 Farm Bill right now, and a first draft may be largely complete in the next two weeks.

It’s time to make sure Congress knows what matters.

Now is the time! We need a food and farm bill this year that:

– Creates jobs and spurs economic growth through food and farms
– Invests in the next generation of farmers and ranchers
– Makes healthy food widely available to all Americans
– Protects our natural resources and helps farmers care for their land
– Drives innovation for tomorrow’s farmers and food entrepreneurs
– Reforms outdated subsidies and restores fiscal responsibility in farm policy

Sign on today!  Stay tuned for more opportunities for action very soon – it’s going to take all of us speaking out to create a better 2012 Farm Bill.

Thank you for all that you do,

The National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition Grassroots Team
