Dear Supporter,
Over $6 billion cut from conservation.
A 50% cut to core beginning and socially disadvantaged farmer programs.
Ballooning subsidy programs for the wealthiest farmers – with no real limits.
What were they thinking? The House Agriculture Committee released its draft 2012 Farm Bill late last week, and it has problems. One major issue? The bill makes huge cuts to conservation programs – including a massive reduction to the popular, successful Conservation Stewardship Program. But it’s not too late to tell the House this is unacceptable – the committee will go back to work on the farm bill TOMORROW.
Successful farming and healthy soil, air, and water go hand in hand. Crucial conservation programs like the Conservation Stewardship Program reward farmers and ranchers for the on-farm environmental benefits they produce.* They’re a win-win for farmers and the environment, and cuts of this magnitude will have direct, damaging impacts on our nation’s waterways and soil.
Every single call or email you make has an impact on the fate of conservation in the 2012 Farm Bill.

* The Conservation Stewardship Program helps farmers manage and expand smart conservation activities on their lands – like restoring native grasses on pastureland to create wildlife habitat or rotating crops seasonally to improve the soil.
